DISRUPTED ACCOUNTS

8 mm film transfered to digital

Disrupted Accounts consists of a digital projection of transferred 8mm footage MDR shot around restricted Sicilian military bases, which was juxtaposed with found-footage and materials gathered through online research, together with the sound of the wind, the roar of military vehicles, and some voice recordings from the web footages of pilots in Nevada directing unmanned aircrafts in Afghanistan. Developed from an investigation of economic and political ties between Sicily and the United States, the project explores the complex relationship between historical memory and individual conscience. Drawing from recent news events (shedding light on the effects of the military agreements between the two continents which started in the 40s), it triggers an extensive series of space-time references, holding the viewer in a continuous back and forth between the past and an unpredictable future, creating an atmosphere of suspension and ambiguity.
